Artistic senior lecturers and artistic instructors in Architecture

See details

Chalmers has a strong profile on sustainability working with central societal challenges in the built environment with explorative and practice-based approaches. The department’s teaching and research in architecture, urbanism and design processes integrate practice-based, artistic and scientific methods to explore the broad aspects of architecture – from building technology, physical design and spatial structures to design methods, transformation of built environments and its role in sustainable development.

The department of architecture is under dynamic development and is now looking for new employees. We want to strengthen the exchange with architectural practice and seek 4-7 artistic senior lecturers or artistic instructors in the following areas:

Computational Design
We are looking for an architect with practice experience of computational design in architecture. Applicants must have documented strong competence in 3D modelling and scripting, and show understanding of advanced use of materials. You are expected to have a experimental and curious approach to create and teach architecture.

Rebuilding
We are looking for a practising architect who works with transformation and rebuilding of buildings with a progressive approach. You are expected to have experience of working explorative in design processes and to be able to design building details. Applicants must be skilled in CAD and preferably have a strong interest in architectural history.

Theory and History
We are looking for an architect with a background in both practice and research. You have experience of research (PhD or equivalent) in architectural theory and history, and experience of teaching at university level in this area. It is also expected that you have experience of working in an architectural office or in own practice.

Urban Design
We are looking for a practising architect with experience in working with urban design focused on forming and designing urban space. You are expected to have a strong interest in and knowledge of the significance of the design of public urban space for people’s use and experience of the city. Central is understanding of the different scales of the urban landscape, knowledge of the configuration of urban space, and concern for material and detailing.

Sustainable Architecture
We are looking for a practising architect and/or engineer with experience of working with energy efficiency as well as life cycle perspective concerning both construction and use of buildings. You should have an interest for innovative design where good indoor climate and environmentally optimized solutions are central in the creation of sustainable living environments.

Major responsibilities
The positions as Artistic senior lecturer and Artistic instructor are intended to link persons with high artistic skills and up-to-date professional practice to Chalmer's teaching and research within the areas of Architecture. An artistic senior lecturer/instructor will teach with course responsibilities, take part in the development of the education within the subject area and actively participate in the knowledge exchange between Chalmers and the surrounding world. Participation in research and doctoral studies is also possible.

Position summary
The appointments are for 3 or 2 years, for a position as artistic senior lecturer or artistic instructor, respectively, with possibility of renewal, and part time 20-50% according to agreement upon employment.

Qualifications
For both positions it is required to have:
documented artistic professional skills within architecture, urbanism or design,
